- What type of paint do you have?
Installation ease of the dry rub wall transfers / tatouage will very depending on what type of paint your walls have. Please follow the preparation instructions for your type to make the application go smoothly. Before working on any painted area: Ensure the surface is clean and completely dry. Please allow 48 hours drying time if surface is newly painted. Flat paint should not require any additional preparation.
Satin and Semi-gloss painted surfaces: Washing the surface with a vinegar and water solution to reduce glossy sheen will aide in the adhesion process. High-gloss painted surfaces: Lightly sand glossy painted surfaces in the area where the design will be placed with superfine sandpaper (360-600 grit). A light touch will remove the sheen and allow the design to adhere without resulting in any color change to the paint. Clean the surface and dry completely after sanding. Other painted surfaces: High durability interior paints formulated for children's areas include Teflon in their formula. We recommend following the steps above for high-gloss painted surfaces including sanding the surface prior to application. An alternate solution would be to utilize a matte finish spray sealer (non-yellowing) on the area where the design will be placed. Allow to dry completely per the instructions of the sealer manufacturer prior to design application.

- My walls are textured, can I use the product?
Yes, Instant Murals dry rub wall transfers can be applied to textured walls and surfaces with patience and additional application time. Depending on the depth of the texture grooves, you may need to initially scrape off or knock-down any protruding sharp points. During application, work slowly to ensure each section has released into the grooves. If areas have not released, put the paper back down and rub until the design releases. Adhesion to textured surfaces may result in additional cracks in the design which adds to the hand-painted effect.

- How do I apply Instant Murals dry rub transfers / tatouage wall designs?
Cut the dry rub transfer designs apart, and choose where and how you would like to layout your mural. You can use a small piece of painters tape to temporarily hold the design and backing sheet on the wall until you choose final placement. We also recommend using painters tape to hold the transfer designs in place during application until you are comfortable with how the transfer process works. After you have selected placement of the dry rub transfer design, you want to slowly remove the paper backing and carefully place the design. Using your hand, slowly smooth down the transfer beginning in the center and working outwards to each edge, eliminating all wrinkles and air bubbles. Then using the applicator stick, rub firmly over the entire design, starting at the center and working your way out. Pay extra attention to the edges to ensure the complete release of the design. Slowly begin removing the top transfer paper, starting at the top of the design and working downwards. Rubbing below the section you are removing with the applicator stick will aide in the release process. If you find an area hasn't transferred completely, lay the design back onto the surface and rub further until it releases. All of our designs will come with the application stick and detailed instructions, and if you would like a practice sample with your order if your new at this just let us know and we will enclose that as well!

- There are bubbles in my transfer design, what do I do?
Although making sure the bubbles are out before transferring the design is key, occassionally if an expert in transferring can get a bubble or two. Smaller bubbles can generally be taken care of by slowly placing your finger over the design and pressing. But if large bubbles are present, use a pin to release the air and then smooth down the design. The paint like transfer material we use in the dry rub process has almost a healing quality to close up tiny little pinpoints like that so you shouldn't be able to tell where they were.

- My design has cracks, is that normal?
Tiny cracks occasionally occur on thin design areas of the dry rub transfer or when design sheets have moved during application. These are normal and usually not noticeable. Craft paints can be utilized to touch up these areas or to further customize your design if so desired.
