Please read all instructions thoroughly prior to beginning your project to ensure the best results for your transfers / tatouage. Step 1: PREPARATION Preparation Of Painted Surfaces Before working on any painted area: Ensure the surface is clean and completely dry. Please allow 48 hours drying time if surface is newly painted. Satin and Semi-gloss painted surfaces: Washing the surface with a vinegar and water solution to reduce glossy sheen will aide in the adhesion process. High-gloss painted surfaces: Lightly sand glossy painted surfaces in the area where the design will be placed with superfine sandpaper (360-600 grit). A light touch will remove the sheen and allow the design to adhere without resulting in any color change to the paint. Clean the surface and dry completely after sanding. Other painted surfaces: High durability interior paints formulated for children's areas include Teflon in their formula. We recommend following the steps above for high-gloss painted surfaces including sanding the surface prior to application. An alternate solution would be to utilize a matte finish spray sealer (non-yellowing) on the area where the design will be placed. Allow to dry completely per the instructions of the sealer manufacturer prior to design application. Preparation Of Textured Surfaces Instant Murals can be applied to textured walls and surfaces with patience and additional application time. Depending on the depth of the texture grooves, you may need to initially scrape off or knock-down any protruding sharp points. During application, work slowly to ensure each section has released into the grooves. If areas have not released, put the paper back down and rub until the design releases. Adhesion to textured surfaces may result in additional cracks in the design which adds to the hand-painted effect. Preparation Of Other Surfaces Metal surfaces: Lightly spray a matte finish spray sealer (non-yellowing) to the areas where the design will be placed. Allow area to dry completely per the instructions of the sealer manufacturer prior to adhering the design. Mirror, Glass and Tile surfaces: Ensure area is clean and completely dry before application. Additional rubbing may be necessary to ensure the design releases from the paper. Matte finish spray sealers (non-yellowing) may be used to prepare the surface, utilizing a blade to remove any overspray. Note: Although Instant Murals may be used in kitchens and bathrooms, they are not waterproof and should not be used in areas of frequent direct water contact. Step 2: LAYOUT OF YOUR MURAL TIP: Avoid severely bending or creasing the sheet in any way as this may damage the design. Single sheet with multiple designs: Carefully cut the designs apart, ensuring that the backing stays in place, and leaving at least ¼ inch border around each design. Masking tape may be used to tape the designs to the surface to ensure proper placement prior to final permanent application. Border style sheets: Lay border sheets end to end to create a traditional room border or limitless new design looks. Cut apart extra border sheets to fill in areas of angled designs. Step 3: APPLICATION Slowly remove the paper backing and carefully place the design on the wall or other treated surface. Important: Ensure the design is exactly on the desired location PRIOR to starting the transfer as it cannot be removed or reused once adhered to a surface! Masking tape may be used to hold the design in place to ensure it does not move during the transfer process. Using your hand, slowly smooth down the design beginning in the center and working outwards to each edge, eliminating all wrinkles and air bubbles. If large bubbles are present, use a pin to release the air and then smooth down the design. Using the enclosed applicator stick, rub firmly over the entire design including the edges to ensure the complete release of the design. Slowly begin removing the top paper, starting at the top of the design and working downwards. Rubbing below the section you are removing with the applicator stick will aide in the release process. If you find an area hasn't transferred completely, lay the design back onto the surface and rub again until it releases. Tiny cracks occasionally occur on thin design areas or when designs move during application. These are normal and usually not noticeable. Craft paints can be utilized to touch up these areas or to further customize your design. REMOVING INSTANT MURALS Mirror, Glass & Tile: Scrape the design off with a blade to remove design, followed by regular cleaning. Walls: Instant Murals can be painted over, no removal is necessary! |
